Fans searching through the Nintendo Switch's back-end files have reportedly discovered that every console comes pre-installed with a NES emulator and a modified copy of 1984's NES Golf.
As noted by Switchbrew, an emulator called "flog" (try reading it backwards) has been included on Switch systems since its pre-launch 1.0.0 version.
Flog currently can't be accessed through official means, but when booted up, it runs NES Golf, with one major difference to the original - it supports Joy-Con motion control, allowing you to play shots by holding down L or R and swinging physically.
This is likely a pre-release test for games that will be a part of Nintendo's "Classic Games Selection", the NES titles being offered as part of the Switch's upcoming online subscription. Those Classic Games will also include Switch-specific upgrades - primarily online play.
It's worth pointing out that Classic Game Selection won't be replacing the traditional Virtual Console games that Nintendo's sold since the Wii. That will be a relief to some, as previous reports have suggested that the Switch Virtual Console will include GameCube games.
Nintendo isn't just tinkering with its own games from Switch - it's recently been beginning to solve its years-old problems with third-parties, too.
