PUBG to Use Sea of Thieves' Water Tech

No more ugly-looking water.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will improve the look of its water thanks to Sea of Thieves.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, PUBG's creator Brendan Greene revealed that the popular online battle royale game will now be using Rare's "great water tech" in Sea of Thieves, thanks to Bluehole Inc.'s partnership with Microsoft to publish the game on Xbox One.

"[Rare] said they loved the game, they play it a lot, but, 'Oh, you're [sic] water.' I mean, our water is not very good, but Rare has great water tech. They said, 'We should share some knowledge.' That's a great thing about being part of a network of studios," Greene said. "We can get that water tech, essentially for free, and we can share stuff with them.

"That's just invaluable, because their water is great. Having that would really finish off our world nicely."

Rare is able to share its technology with PUBG developer Blue Studio Inc. because of both of the studios' close affiliation with Microsoft. Sea of Thieves and PUBG are being published by Microsoft, with PUBG now being an Xbox One console exclusive for the time being. And Sea of Thieves studio Rare is of course owned by Microsoft, having been acquired back in 2002.

Now, by being able to use Rare's excellent water tech, Greene believes this'll finish off PUBG's world quite nicely.
