A world wherein there are multiple Joker projects in the works involving multiple Jokers can be confusing. That's even true if you are one of those Jokers, which is the case for Jared Leto.
Leto played Batman's greatest enemy in the Suicide Squad movie, and there are plans for him to reprise the role in a sequel to Suicide Squad, as well as a team-up movie featuring Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. However, on top of that there is a Joker origin story planned, with Martin Scorsese attached to produce and Todd Phillips in line to direct. That movie will definitively not star Leto, which means that we may have two active Jokers at the same time.
"I’m a little confused, too," said Leto during an interview at the launch of the video game Destiny 2. Despite his confusion, Leto also seems fairly sanguine about matters, or at least he's being a good sport. "I love the Joker. He’s a great character and really fun character to play. But it’s a big universe and when you play the Joker, there’s no ownership there. You have the honor of holding the baton for a little while and then passing it off. There are other films that are in development and I’m excited to see what comes from them," he said.
In more Suicide Squad 2 news, The Accountant's Gavin O'Connor is now the latest frontunner to direct the next flick.
Chris Morgan is the author of The Comic Galaxy of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and The Ash Heap of History. Wisely or not, he's also on Twitter.
