If you take a close look at the discs above, you will notice that the 3 disc set comes with a copy of Logan Noir, which is director James Mangold's black and white version of the film.

For some background on how the Logan SteelBook project came together, check out our interview with illustrator Steve McNiven below.

IGN: What was the process like creating this cover?

Steve McNiven: It was a lot of fun. I actually got the gig through my Instagram account. It was pretty cool to be asked to do it. It was quite the process, a lot of going back and forth doing different designs, trying to come up with different looks.

IGN: For the original Old Man Logan comic series, what was your process for creating the look of the character?

Steve McNiven: When I got the script, the whole thing was written, except for the last giant sized issue, everything else was done so I could read through the whole thing. We, talked back and forth and he [writer Mark Millar] had an incredibly clear idea of what he wanted to do with this book. It was definitely pretty quick to come up with the short cropped hair, old Wolverine. We did some initial drawings and we pretty much locked it down within a couple of days.

IGN: What was it like seeing this version of Logan on a big screen for the first time?

Steve McNiven: The movie was fantastic.I think they did an amazing job with the story they put together. It was definitely an original thing. It was great to see Hugh Jackman act the hell out of that role.

IGN: With the Blu-ray cover, what's like to be drawing the film version of Logan, that was inspired by the comic you originally drew?

Steve McNiven: It was pretty cool. When I did the Doctor Strange [DVD cover] it wan an animated one so I didn’t have to worry about likenesses or anything like that, but this one was passed through to James Manigold. It was also passed over to Hugh Jackman and Dafne Keen, so you wanted to make sure you got those likenesses right. So it’s kind of fun, to take a look and find out how Hugh Jackman’s face works and get that expression down.

I knew they wanted to get a flavor of the Old Man Logan stuff that I did, but also to hue to the character, the actor's likenesses. It was definitely a new skill set that I had to sort of figure out. It was fun.

I did a crapload of different designs. Because we were doing the front and the back and an illustration for the inside, at one point we had different designs for the front and the back. There were some characters we added, some we took away and slowly morphed it into what the final product is. It was a pleasant surprise to find people that really knew what they wanted to do and had a cool vision, and at the same time let me do what I do best.

IGN: How did you create the look of the Blu-ray cover? It has kind of a mixed media look to it.

Steve McNiven: I tried to play around with stuff. I find it really bizarre when people try to illustrate clouds. It’s one thing I never did a whole lot in the comic stuff because it doesn't ever look right to me. So a lot of that stuff is photo work, photo manipulation and Photoshop. It was mostly the figure work that I labored over.

IGN: Are there any upcoming projects that you can talk about?

Steve McNiven: I’m just buried with Secret Empire. It’s a crazy story. I hope people really like it. I worked really hard putting it all together.

I’d love to work Charles Soule again, we worked on The Death of Wolverine, which had some similarities as well within the Logan movie and that series that we did. Might be a cool one to check it out if you do watch the movie.

IGN: We just had Secret Empire’s Nick Spencer in the office recently actually.

Steve McNiven: I've never actually met him. To this point I've never bumped into him at a convention, but’s it’s been a lot of fun working with him, he’s an amazing writer.
