Suicide Squad 2 Director Frontrunner Revealed

Jaume Collet-Serra reportedly the studio's top choice.

Jaume Collet-Serra is reportedly the frontrunner to direct Suicide Squad 2.

According to Deadline, after considering a number of directors, including Mel Gibson, Warner Bros. has zeroed in on Collet-Serra as its top choice to helm the upcoming sequel, which will mark the return of Will Smith's Deadshot and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn.

Back in March, it was rumored that Collet-Serra was in consideration to direct Suicide Squad 2 in the event Gibson passed on the project.

In addition to helming the 2016 thriller The Shallows, Collet-Serra's directorial credits include Orphan, Non-Stop and Run All Night. He's also the director behind The Commuter, an upcoming mystery thriller starring Liam Neeson.

The first Suicide Squad film, directed by David Ayer, was released last year to a less-than-glowing reception from critics. Ayer has since admitted that if he could go back and do things differently, he would have made Joker the main villain.
