A new Stargate SG-1 prequel series called Stargate Origins is in development, MGM announced today at Comic-Con 2017.
The 10-episode webseries follows a young Catherine Langford as she tries to solve the mysteries that lie beyond the Stargate in order to save Earth from impending doom.
Stargate Origins will be directed by Mercedes Bryce Morgan (Virtual Morality), written by Mark Ilvedson and Justin Michael Terry, and produced by both MGM and New Form.
Shooting begins this August, with the series set to premiere exclusively on a new subscription-based digital platform called Stargate Command.
The digital platform will provide a comprehensive collection of new and old Stargate content, including a variety of assets, episodes, a community experience, and a behind-the-scenes look at Stargate Origins. "Stargate Command will open a new door for the community to celebrate and interact with all content in a way that has never been done before," said Chris Ottinger, president of MGM Television.
Stargate Command will launch this fall. More details about the platform, including the subscription price, will be revealed in the coming weeks.
While Roland Emmerich previously had plans to reboot the Stargate franchise as a film trilogy, the remake is officially no longer in the works. For more on Stargate, find out why SG-1 ranks as one of IGN's top 50 sci-fi TV shows of all time.
