Black Panther Footage Revealed Costume, Villain Details

A Bond-esque casino battle and trouble back in Wakanda.

Marvel Studios screened never-before-seen footage exclusively for San Diego Comic-Con attendees at their Black Panther presentation Saturday.

The footage shown was from a sequence set in South Korea. The whole thing had a very James Bond vibe to it as we saw T'Challa, along with Nakia and Okoye, in formal, but civilian attire at a casino shadowing arms dealer Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis, reprising his role from Avengers: Age of Ultron). Martin Freeman's Civil War character, government agent Everett K. Ross, is also there and has a scene with Klaue.

Ross teases Klaue for arriving with such a large group. “You’ve got quite the entourage. You got a mixed tape coming out?” There's a shadowy deal going down between Ross and Klaue, with the former trading diamonds for the vibranium the latter possesses. Klaue unzips his trousers and pulls out a parcel of it through his fly to the disgust of Ross.

T'Challa, Okoye and Nakia are listening in on the whole exchange via ear-pieces (audio surveillance of some kind is clearly being used). Once Klaue realizes it's a set-up a fight erupts. Both T'Challa and Okoye engage in hand-to-hand combat against Klaue's goons as Ross escapes as gunfire erupts. Ross and T'Challa are clearly working together.

When T'Challa leaps up to a balcony to confront the escaping Klaue, the latter's arm (which was blown off by Ultron, remember) transformers into a cannon. (In the Marvel comics, "Klaw" has a sonic cannon for a hand.) T'Challa manages to shield himself from the blast.

The footage then segued into more of a trailer/sizzle reel. We see T'Challa being chased by a car when he morphs into his Black Panther costume while running. It seems to just activate and form around him not unlike Tony Stark's Iron Man armor.

There are then shots of T’challa returning to Wakanda, shots where he must engage in combat. War drums beat as he fights. T’challa giving a press conference.

Kendrick Lamar's song "DNA" then kicks in. We see more of the chase in South Korea. Shots of a few people in a museum, a massive car battle, Panther hopping between cars, Killmonger confronting T'Challa in his throne room. We also see Erik Killmonger morph into his own Black Panther-esque, but gold-hued suit that nodded a bit to this design. That Killmonger costume reveal made the crowd go wild.

Black Panther springs into theaters next March.
