Aquaman Footage Showcased Villain's Armada

Jason Momoa presented at Comic-Con 2017.

Aquaman star Jason Momoa appeared at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday to promote his DC superhero's solo film, which hits theaters December 2018.

Momoa, who had just flown in from Australia from filming Aquaman, introduced a brief video and recorded message from the film's director, James Wan.

The sizzle reel began with largely the same footage as the animated, conceptual imagery screened at this year’s CinemaCon. The real clip began with two fishermen out at sea. A foreign-language version of the classic tune “Beyond the Sea” plays over this footage.

One of the fishermen hooks onto something underwater, which proceeds to overpower them and pulls the boat rapidly along, beginning to pull their boat underwater. The fisherman finally lets go of his rod, which flies out of his hands and disappears into the ocean.

We then discern the shapes of giant Atlantean vessels passing underneath them. We go underwater and see the overwhelming armada of Atlantean ships approaching the camera. There were also Atlanteans riding sharks like underwater cavalry. It was heavily sci-fi with the Atlantean armada not like seeing a Rebel or Imperial fleet massing together in a Star Wars movie.

Momoa later confirmed during the Q&A in the Justice League panel that the armada belonged to his villainous brother, Ocean Master (played by Patrick Wilson).

The footage then ended with a shot of Momoa’s Arthur Curry turning around and saying, “i suppose you don’t want to talk about this huh? Neither do I.” It then cuts to the Aquaman movie logo.
