17-Minute Rock Opus In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida Hits Rock Band

Wait a minute; this sounds like rock and or roll!

We haven’t reported on Rock Band 4’s DLC for a while, but this week is a little more interesting than most: the full, 17-minute album version of Iron Butterfly’s In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is coming to Rock Band this Thursday.

According to Harmonix the average length of a Rock Band track is about four-and-a-half minutes, making this track nearly four times the length of an average DLC song. It’ll cost an extra dollar more than usual to download, too, on account of its extreme length.

As one of the most iconic songs of the ’60s, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is frequently credited with blazing a trail from acid rock to the early days of metal.

Rock Band 4 was released back in October 2015, and IGN’s review declared it every bit the magical cooperative gaming experience the series has always been. DLC has been released on a weekly basis since the game’s launch.

Harmonix co-founder Alex Rigopulos recently confirmed to IGN that, in terms of artists he wants to secure for Rock Band, his white whale remains Led Zeppelin.

“Obviously we’ve asked repeatedly,” he said. “We’ve had dialogue with the band, absolutely. I think they’ve given it serious consideration, but for various reasons it hasn’t been right for them.”
