Metroid is at E3 for the first time since 2009. But this isn’t a moody, exploration-based, alien-shooter. It’s a 3-on-3 soccer minigame called Blast Ball. This is (presumably) a small part of a game called Metroid Prime: Federation Force, which Nintendo is keeping very quiet about for now.
While ‘Metroid Prime’ is in the name, and the HUD overlay does resemble Prime’s first-person view, but that’s where the Metroid similarities end. For instance, the demo starts out with your character (who is a small humanoid in a space suit) leaping into a larger suit of power armor. Then the soccer game starts. Just like Metroid, right? Just kidding. You might have seen this game in action at the Nintendo World Championships (and if you haven’t, you can watch it below) so I’ll just tell you how it plays.
