Why Should I Pre-order?
ddiphonex2

Brand new Apple products have a tendency to run out of inventory at launch, and iPhones are Apple's most anticipated new release. The iPhone X in particular is such a standout phone in both features and aesthetics that it's sure to be snatched up in no time.

In case inventory becomes scarce, preordering will help guarantee that you'll still get your iPhone. There's also no risk, since you are not charged until the phone ships and you can cancel anytime. On release day, you won't have to wait in line at an Apple Store either. If you purchase the phone with contract, all your information is pre-filled so that there is little to no paperwork to fill.

Accessories You Might Need For Your New iPhone

There are a few accessories that you might want to think about purchasing beforehand so that they can be delivered before your iPhone.

The One Accessory That You NEED Is an iPhone Case

If there's only one accessory you could buy for your new iPhone, it would have to be this. For new investment could cost upwards of $1,000. For under $20, you could get a case that protects your iPhone from everyday bumps and scrapes. If you are absolutely against using a case, at the very least consider a screen projector to shield your display from damage. Understandably there aren't too many options at the moment.

More iPhone 8 and 8 Plus Cases and Screen Protectors from Anker

Anker is one of the most popular 3rd party vendors on Amazon for cell phone cases and accessories. They are always well reviewed and their products have better quality control and more precise fits than your run-of-the-mill 3rd party smartphone case.

The iPhone 8 and X do NOT include Wireless Headphones

Although wired headphones are included, wireless headphones are mcuh more convenient since the iPhone 8 and X both have built-in Bluetooth. Here are some of my recommendations:

Nothing Pairs With Apple iPhones Better Than Apple Headphones

My top recommendation would be the Apple AirPods. They look really slick, sound great, have the smallest footprint we've seen of any headphone, and are fully compatible with all of the iPhone's functions, including Siri.

Airpods Too Pricey? The Next Best Thing Are the Apple-Owned Beats

If the AirPods are a bit out of your budget, consider the Beats X wireless headphones. They are also vetted by Apple (since Apple owns Beats). They provide great audio and feature a small footprint.

My Favorite "Value" Headphone - Cowin E-7 w/ Active Noise Cancelling

Must add both headphones and case together to cart and apply code below. The Cowins are massively popular with the IGN audience. I've bought one myself out of curiosity and my wife now uses it all the time for work. I've had IGN staff buy one and then buy more for their friends and family. For $37 you're getting a headphone with 40mm large aperture drivers, wireless Bluetooth connectivity, active (not passive) noise cancellation, 30hrs of battery life, and built-in mic.

If You Pick Your Own Headphones, Make Sure It Connects via Bluetooth

There are hundreds of other wireless headphones to choose from and they should all work as long as they connect via Bluetooth.

It Doesn't Hurt to Pick Up More iPhone Chargers And/or Cables

The iPhones come packaged with one USB to Lightning Cable and one USB Power Adapter. If you don't ever lose them (and that's a big IF), it's still a pain to have to remember to bring these with you wherever you go. In addition to the few I have at home, I carry a separate charger and cable in my bag and leave a set in my car.

The iPhone 8 and X use the same Apple Lightning connector as previous models, so if you have your old cables lying around, they'll work too. If you need to buy more, stick with aftermarket cables and chargers. In my experience, they perform just as well as Apple OEM products.

A Power Bank Can Double, Triple, or Quadruple Your Battery Life

In my opinion power banks are better than those "battery pack cases" that can attach to your iPhone. These don't add bulk to your iPhone, offer greater capacity batteries, and most importantly, can be used to charge all of your USB powered devices, not just your iPhone.

The smaller the battery capacity of the power bank, the smaller the size. "Lipstick" powerbanks can fit in your pocket but are generally no more than 6,000mAh in capacity. Brick-shaped power banks, however, can carry up to 30,000mAh of juice at a slight expense to size.

Any Qi-Compatible Induction Charger Will Wirelessly Charge Your iPhone

That's right, you don't need to shell out big bucks for the Apple branded wireless charger. The Qi-compatible inductive charging standard has existed for several generations for other smartphones so there are plenty of well-reviewed wireless chargers already available.
