Dragon Quest X will release in Japan for PlayStation 4 on August 17 and Nintendo Switch on September 21.
Square Enix shared the news during a recent livestream event, during which the publisher showcased the first footage of its popular MMO running on Switch. Skip to the 29:17 mark in the video below to see the game running on Switch, which is immediately followed by PS4 footage just over 31 minutes in.
As reported by Gematsu, the PS4 and Switch versions will cost 4,800 yen each. The PS4 version requires a 1,500 yen monthly fee for five characters, while the Switch version will cost between 1,000 and 1,500 yen a month for three to five characters. Both versions will be available as the "All in One Package" edition, which includes Version 1, Version 2 and Version 3.
Additionally, Square Enix will run a beta test for the PS4 and Switch versions from July 19 to August 10. Those who'd like to participate in the beta can apply right here.
The launch of Square's MMORPG will follow closely behind release of Dragon Quest XI, which launches in Japan for both PlayStation 4 and 3DS on July 29. While the PS4 and 3DS versions will be available for purchase separately, Square Enix will also release a bundle that includes both versions in a single package. Alongside the game's release, Hori will release a Slime-shaped DualShock 4, and Sony has a very snazzy Dragon Quest-themed PS4 arriving on that date as well.
While there's currently no word as the when Dragon Quest XI will release for Nintendo Switch, Square has confirmed a version for Nintendo's new console is on the horizon.
It's also important to note there's no official word on when (or if) Dragon Quest X and XI will come to the west, though Dragon Quest Builders producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto said last year that Square Enix is "committed" to releasing more Dragon Quest titles outside of Japan.
