Overlord: J.J. Abrams Producing a D-Day Movie With a Supernatural Twist

Two paratroopers discover strange Nazi experiments.

The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams is a producing a World War II movie with a supernatural twist.

Variety reports that Son of a Gun director Julius Avery will helm the film, titled Overlord, with Billy Ray writing the script, and Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) doing a polish on the first draft.

Overlord follows the story of two paratroopers who're on a mission, during D-Day, to destroy a German Radio Tower in a small town outside of Normandy. They find themselves caught behind enemy lines when their planes crash but still manage to reach their target. However, the pair quickly realize that, not only do they have to fight off Nazi soldiers, but they must also battle supernatural forces that are the result of strange Nazi experiments.

The film project was first acquired by Paramount in 2007 but, for now, Overlord does not have a release date and there's no word yet on who might be playing the two leads.

J.J. Abrams recently gave his take on a specific scene in The Force Awakens and explained why Kylo Ren and Rey had never met before the events of the film.
