Why Avengers Towers Isn't in The Marvel Netflix Series

And it's not budgetary constraints.

The Avengers Tower is a massive landmark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it has not been seen in any of Marvel's Netflix shows, which all take place in New York City. According to Jeph Loeb, a co-executive producer of Marvel TV, Marvel has a reason for that.

Loeb and fellow co-executive producer Jim Chory were interviewed by Inverse recently, in which the two discussed Marvel TV's relationship with New York City. Loeb specifically addressed why the Avengers Tower, a focal point of the Marvel movies, has never shown up in any of the Netflix series.

"I think it’s much more that we look at it from the point of view of 'where are we?' and having to establish that along the way," Loeb said, when asked if the lack of an Avengers Tower had to do with budgetary constraints.

"In many ways, being less specific helps the audience understand that this could be on any street corner. Where we’re sitting right now, I can see the Empire State Building, but if we were sitting 30 blocks that way, I wouldn’t be able to see the Empire State Building. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It just means that we can’t see it from where we are."

Based on Loeb's comments don't expect Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, or Iron Fist to start hanging out at the Avengers Tower anytime soon. For more on Marvel's Netflix series, check out our review of The Defenders: Season 1.

Loeb also previously discussed why The Punisher's release date, which Netflix recently announced, had been delayed.

Chris Morgan is the author of The Ash Heap of History and The Comic Galaxy of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Wisely or not, he's also on Twitter.
