We recently stumbled across an extremely strange bug in Stardew Valley which lets players create any item they want based on their character’s name, a bug which Stardew Valley developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone confirmed to us will not be patched out.
“I am aware of it, but I don’t think I want to fix it,” Barone said. “It's not game-breaking, it's kind of amusing, and the likelihood that someone would randomly stumble upon it is extremely low. So I feel like it's okay to leave it, and actually kind of fun.”
By naming your character [72], you can spawn a Diamond each time your name is mentioned.
You can head over to the Stardew Valley Wiki to learn how to spawn any item in the game by exploiting this bug, but the short version is that naming your character or animals the ID number of an item will cause that item to be added to your inventory every time the name is mentioned by an NPC. We've also obtained a list of item spawn codes for Stardew Valley from ConcerenedApe which you can find here so you can find exactly what you want.
While it’s commonly being referred to as a ‘cheat’, Barone told us it wasn’t intended and is definitely a bug. He also said that “there aren’t any cheats intentionally built into Stardew Valley.” However, in addition to this item spawning bug, users have found some other cool exploits and helpful hints we've collected on the Stardew Valley Cheats and Secrets page. Newcomers should check out the video review above and also our Stardew Valley starters guide if you’re just picking it up on Switch.
