Logan director James Mangold is reportedly writing the script for the potential X-23 spinoff movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mangold has now started working on the screenplay for the film, which hasn't officially been greenlit by 20th Century Fox but would focus on Dafne Keen's Laura from Logan. However, the director did mention that the success of Wonder Woman has increased the chances of an X-23 movie actually happening.
"Patty [Jenkins]'s success with that film only solidifies more for studios that there's less to fear with a female protagonist," Mangold said while discussing the possibility of an X-23/Laura followup to Logan.
"The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, 'Well, here we are with a female protagonist. That's incredible. And what are we going to do with her,'" Mangold explained. "And that's where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming."
Wolverine himself Hugh Jackman also reiterated he is done with the character, saying he wouldn't be involved with an X-23 spinoff in any capacity, even as a producer
"No, I won’t be a producer on a Laura sequel," Jackman said. "But I will be lining up on the Thursday night at 10 p.m. to watch it though. She is just phenomenal."
