Horizon: The Frozen Wilds Trademark Reportedly Suspended

Thanks to a mobile slot machine game.

Sony's trademark for the Horizon: Zero Dawn expansion The Frozen Wilds has reportedly been suspended because of a mobile slot machine game.

NeoGAF user Rösti discovered the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's (USPTO) suspension notice, which is reportedly over a month old. In the notice, USPTO states that mobile game developer Huuuge Games filed for a similar trademark before Sony. As such, for now, Sony's trademark has been suspended.

IGN has reached out to Sony for comment and will update the story once we hear back.

USPTO gave the following reason for the suspension in its notice: "If the mark in the referenced application(s) registers, applicant's mark may be refused registration under Section 2(d) because of a likelihood of confusion with that registered mark(s)."

The current suspension doesn't necessarily mean the name will have to be changed, as Sony has the ability to respond and make the case that there won't be any confusion between the two trademarks.

Horizon: Zero Dawn The Frozen Wilds is slated to launch on November 7. Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition will be released for PlayStation 4 on December 5, and it comes packaged with The Frozen Wilds DLC.
