Gears of War 4 Gets New Maps, Halloween Event

Old favorites.

Gears of War 4 will receive two new maps on October 23, and a Halloween event on October 27.

In a post on Xbox Wire, The Coalition announced that the October Update includes the final two maps for Gears of War 4, as well as support for the incoming Xbox One X enhancements. Further details regarding the Xbox One X enhancements will be released very soon.

The two maps included in the update are Fuel Depot and Lift Apex. Fuel Depot is a returning map from Gears of War 1 and 2. The map features a larger size that provides opportunities to flank enemies, and tension for players navigating the open spaces while avoiding Longshot sniper fire.

Lift Apex is also a re-work of a previous map. The old map featured a moving lift, but the updated version instead features timed shutters that can be closed by players in the Control Room, granting players a window of protection from ranged attacks.

Season Pass holders will have access to both Fuel Depot and Lift Apex on October 23 with Double XP and 20 percent bonus Credits. The maps will be available for all players in Public Matchmaking on October 30.

The addition of these maps also marks the end of the Developer Playlist with double XP and 20 percent bonus Credits, and The Coalition will add a "Map Owned" bonus to replace it. Players will receive a permanent XP and Credit bonus when playing on maps they own in Public Versus or Horde matches. This means all Gears of War 4 players will receive the bonus on the 10 original maps, and Season Pass holders will receive the bonus on every map.

Meanwhile, the Halloween event will feature new characters, new weapon skins, and special events. Following that, November will feature a month-long celebration of the 11th anniversary of Gears of War, with special events to be detailed in the near future.

The October Update will also feature optimizations to storage space for the game, which will result in overall file size reduction for Gears of War 4.

In other Gears of War news, a new Gears of War comic series was announced back in July, and will be released next year.
