This year's summer box office has a new champ, as Wonder Woman surpassed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to become the highest-grossing film in domestic theaters this season.
According to Box Office Mojo, the total domestic earnings for director Patty Jenkins' DC film now stand at $389.7 million, edging out the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's $387.3 domestic haul. When looking at worldwide figures, however, Wonder Woman still remains behind the James Gunn-directed Marvel sequel.
Just ahead of its fifth weekend in theaters, Wonder Woman surpassed Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and Man of Steel to become the DCEU's highest-grossing movie at the North American box office.
It also ranks as the second-highest grossing film of the entire year, with Beauty and the Beast still holding strong as the biggest hit of 2017 so far, and is now the highest-grossing movie by a female director.

Last week at San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Bros. and DC officially confirmed Wonder Woman 2 is on the way, and just yesterday, it was reported that the film will open in theaters on December 19, 2019. While we know Gal Gadot will return to star as Diana, there's no official word yet if Jenkins will be back to direct the sequel, which is rumored to take place during the Cold War.
