Today, Microsoft released a list of features and functionalities that are set to be removed from Windows 10 in the Fall Creators Update. The list is mostly made up of underutilized or non-functioning programs, but one application in particular stuck out on the list: Microsoft Paint, the beloved drawing/editing program.
According to Microsoft's official update notes, Microsoft Paint is tagged as "deprecated," meaning it is "not in active development and might be removed in future releases." Based on that wording, it sounds like Paint isn't going away just yet, but Microsoft would recommend finishing up any MS Paint masterpieces sooner than later.
Microsoft Paint has been a part of Windows' operating systems for 32 years, having originally launched with the Windows 1.0 program. If you are a longtime Window's user, you probably used Paint at some point to make a simple image, quick meme, or edit a screenshot.
Last October, Microsoft announced and released an updated version of the program called Paint 3D, which incorporated many of the features of Paint into a hybrid 2D-3D editing program. As such, Paint 3D will essentially replace the need for the original Paint, which explains why the 30-year old program is on the chopping block.
