While playing through Super Mario Odyssey players will never be confronted with a Game Over Screen, regardless of how many times they fail.
Eurogamer has translated a tweet from the Japanese Super Mario Odyssey Twitter page to reveal that the new 3D Mario title won't be punishing players with a finite Game Over screen.
マリオの体力が0になったり、奈落に落ちると、持っているコインが10枚減ってしまいます。ただし…!いくらミスしてもGAME OVERはありません。 http://pic.twitter.com/6oEia6LcVr

The tweet explains that when a player's health bar falls to zero, the game will simply remove ten coins from Mario's treasury. This was followed up with a subsequent tweet stating that even players who fail with less than ten coins won't find themselves faced with a 'Game Over'.
This sudden switch from the usual Mario formula is implemented in the hopes of encouraging exploration throughout the vast open world, which we featured in our hands-on preview of Super Mario Odyssey.
Coins are a more major part of Odyssey than in previous games - instead of offering extra lives, they're now used to purchase new clothing items that can benefit Mario in the wider world.
For more insight into Mario and the worlds he occupies, we asked the creator Shigeru Miyamoto about the legacy behind one of gaming's most recognisable characters.
