Stranger Things' Actor Talks Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen

"Darker, R-rated" vision in the works for Hellboy reboot.

Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen is going to be a lot darker than previous on-screen iterations.

Rise of the Blood Queen actor David Harbour (Stranger Things) went on camera with IGN's Terri Schwartz at San Diego Comic Con and got to talking about the long-awaited reboot of Hellboy, where he explained his love of the Hellboy comic and movies:

"One of the most gratifying things was that Mike Mignola, the director Neil Marshall and Larry Levin and Lloyd Gordon, the producers, all watched 'Stranger Things' and I think they all literally, like, Mike told me they just called each other and were, like, 'this guy should play Hellboy,'" said Harbour.

Harbour went on to compliment Marshall's decision to give the new Hellboy a darker edge, which he said was "true to the comic's vision" and that the new production would work to bring a "darker, more R-rated element to it."

Finally, Harbour commented on his nervousness about trying on the full Hellboy make up for the very first time.

"I was really scared because it's like being Frankenstein, you have to put all this stuff on," he said. "But it's so beautiful and moves so well because it's made out of this material where you can see muscle and you can see expression in the face and I'm completely blown away."

Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen is slated for release in 2018.
