To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Pokemon Go's launch, a small birthday event launched 1 PM July 6, and will run until July 24. This is separate from the live event, Pokemon Go Fest, in Chicago on July 22.
During the Pokemon Go Anniversary Event, all Pikachu discovered in the wild will be wearing Ash's hat from the Pokemon anime.
A special, discounted "Anniversary Box" is also available in the in-game Shop. It contains many items specifically helpful for Raids, and contains 6 Max Revives, 2 Raid Passes, 20 Ultra Balls, 6 Incubators, and costs 1200 Poké Coins.
Any 2km Eggs collected and hatched during the Anniversary Event period could be Pichu with Ash's hat! Since Pichu is a baby-Pokemon that doesn't appear in the wild, this is the only way to get the special little Electric-type mouse.
To get Raichu with Ash's iconic hat, simply evolve an Ash-hat-wearing Pikachu.
Though the Anniversary Box's contents are a bit lackluster besides the usually not-for-sale Ultra Balls, it's still technically cheaper than it would be if you bought everything individually.
Items | Cost Individually |
6 Egg Incubators | 900 |
6 Max Revives | 180 |
2 Premium Raid Passes | 200 |
20 Ultra Balls | N/A (but 20 Poke Balls would cost 200) |
Total: '1480' |
So all told, you're only saving 280 PokeCoins, or $2.80, on the Anniversary Box. This is still pretty significant if you spend no money on Pokemon Go, as collecting 280 PokeCoins takes at least six days with the new 50-coins-a-day max.
