Platinum Games recently opened a new Japanese-language Twitter account - to celebrate, it's seemingly teasing fans with images that could suggest some its games released on Wii U could be coming to Nintendo Switch.
It began with a picture featuring Bayonetta in her first and second game looks. Some were quick to point out that the background colours of each image matched those of the red and blue Switch Joy-Cons:
That said, the colours also match the title treatment on each game's boxart, so this could be mere coincidence.
However, last night Platinum posted a second tweet, featuring characters from Wii U exclusive The Wonderful 101 clearly playing the game using Switch Joy-Cons in grips:
Nintendo was involved in publishing both Bayonetta games and The Wonderful 101 on Wii U, so Switch releases are not outside the realm of possibility. However, The Wonderful 101 frequently used the Wii U's dual-screen support, which could make a port difficult (and some sections of the game actively impossible to replicate).
It's been suggested that that latter point could mean a Wonderful 101 sequel, rather than a port, is in the works for Switch.
In what might be a bit of wishful thinking from Platinum itself, the Joy-Cons (and possible the Switch dock) from the second tweet are themed like Famicom controllers.
We awarded the original Bayonetta a 9.6, saying it "flies so astonishingly close to perfection...no other title has astounded us with such a steady stream of escalating wonders." The second didn't break that streak - our 9.5 review said that it "builds on everything that made the original great."
We liked The Wonderful 101 a little less, awarding it a 7.4, calling it "flawed but eminently likeable ... a charming, boisterous and deceptively complex action game."
Platinum has a lot going on right now, it seems - from discussions about Bayonetta 3, to a new IP with a new director. It's previously been confirmed that Platinum is an official Switch developer, and a company spokesman told Japanese magazine Famitsu that it is working on a Switch title.
That's not to mention its recent ports of Vanquish and, yes, the first Bayonetta to PC. It has so much on, in fact, that we recently visited the studio to talk through its current philosophy.
