A live-action One Piece TV show has been announced.
According to Yahoo! Japan (translation via The One Piece Podcast), One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda has confirmed a live-action Hollywood adaptation of the popular anime is reportedly in development.
Tomorrow Studios, who's also taking on the recently-announced Cowboy Bebop live-action TV series, will oversee the project. The One Piece live-action series doesn't have a release date yet.
Oda commented on the announcement, assuring fans the live-action series is something to be excited about. As quoted by Oricon, Oda does not want to betray fans who've supported the One Piece manga and original anime.
The One Piece manga debuted in 1997 and was adapted into an anime TV series in 1999. The show follows Monkey D. Luffy, who dreams of becoming a pirate king and accidentally gains the power to stretch like rubber. He eventually sets out on a quest to find what is thought to be the greatest treasure in the world, One Piece.
The next upcoming live-action anime remake is Death Note, which premieres on Netflix on August 25. Check out several other live-action anime remakes we believe could be on the horizon.
