Sonic the Hedgehog has found a new home at comics publisher IDW Publishing, SEGA has announced.
While creative teams are currently in being assembled, a new chapter in Sonic's story is said to begin sometime in 2018.
"We've been speaking with beloved Sonic fan-favorite creators and new creators alike, and are excited to be able to spread specifics about our plans for the comic in the near future," IDW chief creative officer Chris Ryall said.
News of this partnership comes shortly after SEGA's announcement of the end of its 24-year publishing deal with Archie Comics. According to a statement released by the company, the termination of its partnership with Archie "signifies SEGA of America's decision to take a different direction for the series."
2017 is a big year for SEGA's beloved mascot. In addition to Sonic Mania, which launches next month for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch, a new title from Sonic Team called Sonic Forces is slated to release this holiday season.
