This article discusses events previewed in a promo for Game of Thrones Season 7 episode 3, "The Queen's Justice." If you don't wish to know what is coming ahead based on what is released by HBO, read on at your own risk.
It's finally happening, Game of Thrones fans. The promo for Season 7, episode 3 "The Queen's Justice" features the meeting we've been waiting for since this series began.
The promo for the third episode, which aired at the end of "Stormborn," featured the glorious introduction of Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. And this is only episode 3!
Kit Harington previously told Entertainment Weekly that "this season is really different than any other season because it’s accelerating toward the end, a lot of stuff collides and happens much much quicker than you’re used to seeing on Thrones." Though "Stormborn" set up Jon Snow heading south to meet with Daenerys Targaryen, having it happen only one episode later is a bit surreal and exciting.
Then again, a single meeting between these characters doesn't mean an automatic alliance. Daenerys is more concerned with claiming Westeros from Cersei Lannister than a looming threat to the North, and her dismissal of the threat of the Night King is bad news for Jon. Though Melisandre told Dany that she believes both she and Jon will have an important role to play together, that doesn't necessarily mean the Dragon Queen will listen. That's especially the case if she takes Olenna Tyrell's advice and starts to be a "dragon," which she'll likely do once she finds out about how Cersei struck the first blow by attacking her fleet, with Euron kidnapping Yara and Ellaria.
There is the bigger question of what Jon and Dany's role together will be. Beyond the speculation that R+L=J, there is the looming prophecy of the "Prince That Was Promised." In "Stormborn," Missandei dropped the game-changing revelation that the translation of the "Prince That Was Promised" is flawed, and the noun for "prince" is actually gender-neutral. Because of that, "Prince" could actually be "Princess"... and chances are Melisandre is banking on Daenerys being that prince.
But she also was wrong about Stannis being Azor Ahai reborn, and last season she seemed to be strongly considering that Jon could be that man as well. With Game of Thrones bringing the prophecy to the forefront again, chances are we'll be getting an answer sooner rather than later.
