Comic book luminary Frank Miller is keeping very busy these days. Not only is he back at work on his long-gestating 300 prequel graphic novel, he's also developing his own take on the origin of Superman.
That news came as Miller crashed DC's "Master Class" panel at SDCC tonight. Miller showed up to reveal that he's writing a mini-series called Superman: Year One. John Romita Jr. will provide the art for this series. Romita recently teamed with Miller on The Dark Knight Returns: The Last Crusade. Miller described the series as "the opportunity of a lifetime" and something he's been planning for many years.
Little else is known about this project, though the title makes it clear that Miller and Romita will be focusing on Superman's early months on the job. Expect a revisionist take on the Man of Steel's origin just as Miller and artist David Mazzucchelli did for the Dark Knight in 1986's Batman: Year One.
Unlike Batman: Year One, it's unclear if Superman: Year One will be set in current DC continuity. It's very possible that this story will instead take place in Miller's Dark Knight Returns universe.
There's no word yet on a release date for Superman: Year One, but we'll let you know when we learn more about this intriguing new project.
