The upcoming Batman and Harley Quinn animated movie is getting prequel and sequel comics.
Newsrama reports the prequel, titled Harley Quinn and Batman, is a five-part digital-first series from Batman writer Ty Templeton and artist Rick Burnett. The duo previously worked on The Batman Adventures, the comic book series tie-in to Batman: The Animated Series.
The prequel will follow Harley Quinn, before she eventually teams up with Batman in the movie, trying to become a proper supervillain herself rather than being Joker's sidekick.

“I spent some of the best years of my career working with these icons and could not be happier to be returning to Gotham City and their adventures," said Templeton.
The first issue of Harley Quinn and Batman will launch on July 31 and the prequel will continue to be released bi-weekly. It'll eventually overlap with the animated film's August 15 and 29 Digital HD/Blu-ray releases.
Both the prequel and film will be followed by the sequel, also called Batman and Harley Quinn, which launches digitally in October.
It'll consist of a series of short stories from several different creators, including Templeton, Amanda Deibert, Jeff Parker, Craig Rousseau, Luciano Vecchio, David Hahn, Dario Brizuela, Matthew Dow Smith, and Sandy Jarrell.
Both comic book series will also be getting an all-inclusive trade paperback release in summer 2018.
