19 Photos of Star Wars Land Scale Model, Concept Art and Props

An even closer look at Star Wars Land

Disney Parks are offering fans an even closer look at Star Wars Land at the 2017 D23 Expo. During a preview of the show floor, the first look at a scale model of the forthcoming section of Disneyland and Walt Disney World was unveiled.

Click through the below gallery for a look at the scale model of Star Wars Land, an array of concept art and some of the props that will be used at the theme park.

The immersive Star Wars section of the Disney theme parks is slated to open in 2019, and features everything from an attraction that allows attendees to fly the Millenium Falcon to a fully stacked cantina. The idea is to make attendees feel like they are in their own Star Wars story, and though the new expansion's time period is intentionally vague, parkgoers will run into members of the First Order and the Resistance.

At D23 Expo IGN spoke with Scott Trowbridge, Disney's creative portfolio executive working on Star Wars Land. He discussed how the Disney Parks team strove to make the experience of visiting Star Wars Land fully immersive.

"When we thought about building this place, we didn't want to just remind you about somebody else's Star Wars story or let you watch a Star Wars story, but we wanted you to live a Star Wars story. That was kind of the impetus for creating this new planet -- or at least new to us -- where you can come, you can participate if you want to," he said. "You can engage and make choices and have those choices matter and kind of live out a true Star Wars adventure of your own making."

Speaking to the idea of actions having "consequences," Trowbridge detailed a situation where someone who flies the Millenium Falcon during their adventure on that attraction very well finding "extra Galactic credits coming your way," but if you do a "lousy job," "the boss man might not be too happy with that." Then, when the parkgoer travels across the street to the cantina, the bartender might reference that bad flight on the Falcon -- and someone could even end up with a bounty on their head.
