Sea of Thieves: Road to E3 2017

We can't wait to sail the seas at E3 with Rare's upcoming pirate adventure.

It's that time of year again: E3 2017 is just on the horizon. From June 10-15, we'll be covering the biggest games and hardware announcements of 2017 and beyond. While you can check out our continually-updated Games of E3 List, we're now going to start diving deeper.

Every day leading up to the show, we'll be highlight the stuff we want to see and play at E3 2017. Today's game: Sea of Thieves

When Did We Last See Sea of Thieves?

We last saw Sea of Thieves when Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, visited Rare for a developer let’s play. That video showed us a whole bunch of new stuff, including how navigation works, and sword combat.

Why We're Excited for Sea of Thieves

Rare are responsible for some of our favourite games ever, and seeing them flex their charming creativity on a massive, whimsical pirate adventure sounds incredibly promising. We know it has some of that British developer charm and humour, and it was certainly the only game that made me cry of laughter when I played it at E3 last year.

We’re also just really hyped to see it because we still have a lot of questions. We know it has a huge multiplayer focus, but is there a story? What are side-quests going to look like, and are there any RPG elements like leveling up or acquiring unique gear? I’m sold on the basic concept, but I still want to know what I’m going to be spending most of my time actually doing in Sea of Thieves.

Will Sea of Thieves be at E3 2017?

100% - on the 18th of May, Rare tweeted saying “Headed to the PC Gaming Show @E3 this year? So are we!” So, we know they’ll be at the PC Gaming conference, but we don’t know if they’ll be on the show floor just yet. It’s pretty likely, though.
