Ever since it was revealed that Warner Bros. was developing a Suicide Squad spin-off, revolving around Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn and the Gotham City Sirens, one question about the project was whether it would include an appearance by Harley's on-again, off-again boyfriend, the Joker (played in Suicide Squad by Oscar winner Jared Leto).
Entertainment Tonight caught up with Leto this week while he was promoting his new HBO documentary series, The Defiant Ones, and asked him whether his Joker will be in the DC film.
“I have no idea. Maybe I know, but I can’t confirm or deny," said Leto.
He continued, "There are a lot of moving parts with that stuff and we’ll see what happens next."
Gotham City Sirens will be directed by Suicide Squad's David Ayer, who will also produce the movie along with DC Films' Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. In addition to starring, Robbie will also exec produce. Geneva Robertson-Dworet (the Tomb Raider reboot) will script.
Ayer took to social media in February to possibly tease Black Mask as the villain of the movie.
There is no release date set yet for the spin-off.
