Game of Thrones' Oona Chaplin Joins Avatar Sequels

Chaplin will play one of the sequels' central characters.

Game of Thrones alum Oona Chaplin has joined James Cameron's Avatar sequels.

Deadline reports Chaplin, who played Robb Stark's wife Talisa on Game of Thrones, will portray Varang, one of the central characters in the sequel films. Aside from being described as strong and vibrant, little is known about Varang.

Chaplin joins a cast that includes Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington, Cliff Curtis and Joel David Moore.

Motion-capture for Avatar 2 is set to begin in August, and Weaver previously revealed that filming will start sometime in late 2017. Last year, Cameron said he hopes to release all four Avatar sequels with glasses-free 3D and higher frame-rates.

After multiple delays, Avatar 2 will be released in theaters on December 18, 2020, which will be followed by Avatar 3 on December 17, 2021. Avatar 4 will follow three years later on December 20, 2024, and Avatar 5 will open in theaters on December 19, 2025.
