So this PPV sure as hell changed a lot over the last 48 hours!
A backstage outbreak of either viral meningitis or (now reportedly) mumps, that we'll just call "Mumpingitis," has felled both Bray Wyatt and freakin' Roman Reigns, causing them to miss the TLC PPV completely. Now AJ Styles is subbing for Bray, in a match against Finn Balor that's got just about every fan super-excited, and Kurt Angle is making his return to a WWE ring for the first time since 2006 to team with Seth and Dean in the 5 on 3 handicap main event. It's all nuts!
How will they account for Kurt wrestling against his own RAW guys when he's GM? How will they protect the dude in a match that's filled with giant, dangerous table spots? Will he get knocked out backstage, spend most of the match off-camera, and then come down for the clean up win at the end? Will he get taken out and replaced by Jason Jordon? They wouldn't promise us the moon and then deliver Uranus like that, would they?
Also, and this is just a small item, but it's weird to have a TLC that doesn't require climbing a ladder for the win. It's happened a couple times before, but it's always strange.
Also also, why not just have the story be that Kane took out Roman Reigns? Now, with Roman out of the match, Kane really has NO reason for being in it. Kayfabe can be good, kids.
Is Finn supposed to still be the "Demon" against Styles? That seems unwarranted. If so, will he still be Pumpkin Spice Demon? Because technically that's what was promised. Will some sort of Bullet Club thing happen? I have many questions.
Anyhow, I'll be live tweeting TLC all night over at @TheMattFowler, and then posting match results and reactions here. Asuka's making her main roster debut! Kalisto's defending his cruiserweight title against Enzo! Bookmark the page and keep coming back for all the action.
I might be wrong, but I think the last time Sasha was booked on the kickoff show is back at the top of the year when she jobbed hard to Nia Jax. "The Boss" would not suffer the same fate here though as she won clean, after a decent. hard-fought opening bout against Alicia.
Alicia is great, her taunts and crazy heckling are always entertaining, but this feud was to go no further than this match and a tap out to the Bank Statement. I love Sasha, but I wouldn't have minded this storyline continuing on a bit more, even if it had meant an Alicia win.
