This Iconic X-Man Isn't Coming Back Yet

Not every mutant is due for ResurrXion.

Marvel continued their major NYCC this afternoon with a panel focused on all things X-Men. It's certainly an interesting time for the franchise, what with the start of Marvel Legacy and the return of iconic characters like Wolverine, Jean Grey and Professor X.

However, there's one major X-Man who apparently won't be returning to life anytime soon. Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso responded to a fan question by saying that there are currently no plans to bring back the adult version of Cyclops, who was killed during the Death of X miniseries last year.

Fans should expect here to be plenty of friction between the young and old versions of characters like Wolverine, Jean and Iceman. Old Man Logan writer Ed Brisson compared the elder Logan to a jilted stepfather who finds himself replaced by the real thing. Iceman editor Darren Shan revealed that the series will focus on new tension between the teen and adult versions of Bobby Drake after Bobby's parents discover the existence of his time-displaced counterpart.

Brisson also shed light on the future of Cable as he takes the reins of the series in Marvel Legacy. Brisson will be introducing a new version of the New Mutants that includes Blink, Longshot, Shatterstar, Armor, X-23 and even Doop. This new team will be tasked with tracking down a mysterious enemy who's killing Externals.

Writer Ethan Sacks discussed the recently announced Old Man Logan prequel Old Man Hawkeye. Sacks said that the series takes place roughly five years before the events of OML and focuses on Hawkeye's mission of revenge. Also said that Old man Hawkeye is very much the Better Call Saul to Old Man Logan's Breaking Bad.

Other interesting tidbits revealed during the panel:

  • Alonso promised that Jean Grey fans will cry when they read Phoenix Resurrection.
  • While Rogue & Gambit is currently planned as a five-issue miniseries, Alonso hinted that it could expand in scope depending on the reception.
  • The upcoming Legion miniseries will see David Haller visit a psychotherapist after one of his split personalities begins devouring the others.
  • Astonishing X-Men writer Charles Soule confirmed that readers will eventually see Magneto's reaction to Xavier's resurrection.
