Microsoft has confirmed that all Xbox One games that feature 4K support will download its 4K assets for all Xbox One X users, regardless of their television.
When asked by Stevivor how the Xbox One family of consoles will handle sizable downloads for 4K supported games like Forza Motorsport 7, a Microsoft rep said, "With the launch of Xbox One X, when it comes to game content our intention is to download the correct assets to the correct console."
As such, the 4K asset patch will only be downloaded on Xbox One X, and not the S or original Xbox One models. "This means, regardless of the TV you are playing on, 4K assets will be downloaded to Xbox One X (if available) and the standard 1080p assets will be downloaded to an Xbox One S," Microsoft explained.
The company rep also said it will provide tools to developers to make these downloads more efficient for the Xbox One X and S models, and that Microsoft has "made available a feature which will give them significant flexibility when it comes to what gets installed on a user’s console."
