Marvel has been teasing the debut of a third Thor for some time now, ever since it was revealed in Thors #4 that Ultimate Mjolnir survived the destruction of Battleworld and landed in the reborn Marvel Universe. For a while it seemed as though the Odinson himself would claim the hammer in the mini-series The Unworthy Thor, but in the end the former god of thunder decided to leave the hammer where it lay and wait for a truly worthy owner to arrive.

That owner did indeed arrive this week. The Mighty Thor #20 focuses mainly on the Thor's allies Volstagg and Roz Solomon as they pay a visit to the wartorn realm of Nidavellir. Their peacekeeping mission is interrupted when the dwarven mines are bombarded with fire from Muspelheim (home of the villain Surtur and his fire demons). Volstagg attempts to rescue a group of Light Elf children from the carnage, only to watch those children be destroyed by an exploding maggot bomb.

Volstagg survived the blast, but he's now consumed by rage and a desire to punish Malekith and his growing army. That rage seems to have made him worthy in the eyes of Ultimate Mjolnir, as the issue ends with Volstagg lifting the hammer and transforming into the "War Thor."
