Dynamite Entertainment has finally revealed the creative team and new story details for their hotly anticipated John Wick comic. The upcoming series will be written by Greg Pak (Totally Awesome Hulk) and drawn by Giovanni Valletta (Dark Horse Presents).
The series will also serve as a prequel to the films, opening when a younger John is released from prison and is first inducted into the shadowy community of assassins. The goal of the series is to explore how John rose through the ranks, dealt with an enemy known as Calamity and came to be known as "Baba Yaga."
“I was on-board pretty much as soon as I got the call and heard John Wick,” Pak said in Dynamite's press release. “I’m a huge Keanu Reeves fan and loved the John Wick movies, which had the kind of kinetic action and intriguing mythology that seemed like a perfect fit for comics.”
“The art I saw from Giovanni Valletta blew my mind — he’s totally nailing Keanu Reeves’ likeness while creating emotional, dynamic, exciting action,” Pak said. “This book is going to be beautiful.”
This isn't the only new John Wick project seeking to expand the world of the films. Lionsgate is also reportedly developing a TV spinoff called The Continental that takes place in the titular hotel for assassins.
Look for John Wick #1 to hit stores on September 6, 2017.
