The Aussie Esports Highlights Of The Week

A collection of highlights from the best esports showdowns of the week.

A big week of esports as the OPL kicks off again for Split 2, the CGPL Overwatch Finals wrapped up and Aussie team Nomia hold on for dear life in the 2017 Heroes of the Storm Mid-Season Brawl. In the news, E3 2017 has given us a revitalised FIFA 18 Competitive Season, the first ever Quake World Championships and we've gotten our first good look at Dragon Ball FighterZ.

We're still keeping our esports calendar updated, and we still love getting your tips. Remember you can email them to me esportsau@ign.com or you can just click to send me an email. If you want, you can tweet suggestions at me as well, my twitter is down the bottom of this article. Make sure you check out the rest of the esports hub, as well!

League of Legends - OPL Split 2 Week 1

The OPL returns this week after a short break, and it kicked off with a whopper as the Dire Wolves faced off against The Chiefs. The winner? Everyone watching — and also the Dire Wolves, who took the match-up 2 games to 1. Team Regicide fell to Abyss Esports, Legacy Esports beat Sin Gaming in a recreation of their Split 1 Gauntlet victory, and Avant Gaming beat TM straight up to seal out the week. In the Chiefs game, ADC Raes secured a Pentakill to give Chiefs some hope in Game 2 against the Dire Wolves. Watch it below.

Counter-Strike - CyberGamer Pro League

In the CyberGamer Pro League Athletico faced off against Tainted Minds, but Tainted's strong run through the online tournament continued as the Green Machine won both maps to secure the week. It wasn't all gloom for the big A though, watch Athletico's Snyper come just two bullets short of an Ace in the first map of the match-up.

Heroes of the Storm - 2017 Mid-Season Brawl

The Global Championship's Mid-Season Brawl is knee-deep in Group Stages at the moment. Aussie team Nomia is fighting it out in Group A, and doing what they can to stay in the competition — though it isn't easy. They've won one of their games so far, beating Chinese team Super Perfect Team in straight games, but they've dropped games to South Korean juggernauts MVP.Black and EU team Fnatic. Always ones to stay positive, we've grabbed a highlight of Nomia smashing in a team-wipe against SPT and finishing off Cursed Hollow.

Overwatch - CGPL Pro Circuit Finals

The CyberGamer Pro Circuit held its finals this weekend past as the best teams in the competition battled it out to determine which one is the best in Australia. Or at least which team has first dibs on challenging Blank Esports for the title. 4Legs and Masterminds GC clashed in the Best of 5 Finals, but Masterminds proved too good at the end of the day. Watch the caster's curse kick in below as 4Legs' comeback slips just out of grasp at the worst possible moment.

Before I wrap-up this week, let's watch some Dragon Ball FighterZ gameplay out of E3 2017, because I literally cannot get enough of it.

If there are any fantastic highlights from the AU scene you think we missed above, drop me a line on twitter or tell us in the comments below. We'll keep an eye on the good stuff though, so make sure you come back next week to see more!
