The Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will reportedly feature a different supporting Marvel hero.
Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man won't return for the next Spider-Man film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Instead, Sony will have the web-slinger team up with a different, to-be-determined MCU character in the sequel, which is slated for release on July 5, 2019.
THR also heard that Sony is interested in making Spider-Man movie spinoffs that focus on supervillains Kraven the Hunter and Mysterio. The two Spider-Man spinoffs that are already confirmed to be in the works are Silver and Black, based on Silver Sable and Black Cat, and the Venom solo film starring Tom Hardy, which will reportedly feature Carnage as the villain.
While Tom Holland (Spider-Man) is said to only be contractually obligated to portray the hero in Spider-Man 2 and 3, Sony hopes to havie him appear somehow in these spinoffs, as well as potentially other Marvel Studios films.
You can watch Spidey team with Iron Man when Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7. Spidey will also appear in Avengers: Infinity War, which opens on May 4, 2018.
