Shenmue 3 Delayed

We blame Lan Di.

Shenmue 3 has been delayed to the second half of 2018. The game had originally been scheduled to release in December this year.

In a short Kickstarter update, series creator and project director, Yu Suzuki explained the delay, saying that: "By utilising new technologies, we have been able to discover new possibilities and expressions. In many ways, the game has become bigger and more beautiful than I initially expected. We do, however, need more time to deliver the game to you."

Further details of the updated development schedule will be in the next Shenmue 3 backer report.

In hindsight, the writing may have been on the wall after we discovered that Shenmue 3 will not be shown at E3 this year.

Shenmue 3 has been in development for almost two years, and desire is high if the fact that it became the most successful video game Kickstarter of all time is anything to go by.

There's always the chance that we'll get some Shenmue action before the end of 2018, however - rumours of a remaster of the original game have been hanging around for years, and Sega were spotted to have registered a domain name for "Shenmue HD" this year.
