PlayStation VR Surpasses 1 Million Units Sold

Over 5 million PSVR games sold as well.

PlayStation VR has surpassed 1 million units sold worldwide after reports earlier this year indicated over 900,000 units of the VR headset had been sold.

Sony Europe boss Jim Ryan revealed the milestone in an interview with Glixel while also confirming that over 5 million PSVR games have been sold. Ryan credits the VR headset's commercial success to Sony treating PSVR as a platform launch rather than a peripheral.

"To be honest we didn't know how well it would do," said Ryan. "We were optimistic, but something as completely different as virtual reality is tough to predict."

Earlier this year, Sony revealed that 915,000 PlayStation VR headsets had been purchased by consumers as of February 19. The company's expectations originally pegged the PSVR as selling 1 million units within the headset's first six months of release.
