Netflix Cancels Sense8

The sensates' fates has been sealed.

After two seasons, Netflix's Sense8 has been cancelled by the streaming service.

Netflix confirmed the cancellation in a statement from Cindy Holland, Netflix's VP of original content. Her statement reads:

“After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end. It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable. Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment."

The second season of Sense8 debuted last month, following a Christmas special last year and the first season's premiere in 2015. The series, from the Wachowskis, followed a group of strangers from around the world who found themselves mentally, and in some ways physically, linked to one another. The group discovered their shared abilities, as well as those who sought to exploit the power, over the course of the show.

IGN gave the second season of Sense8 an 8, saying the "second season takes the building blocks of season 1 and develops it into a wild ride, continuing the show's beautiful cinematography from around the world while spotlighting a delightful ensemble cast."

Netflix's founder Reed Hastings recently spoke about his belief that the service should be cancelling more shows. Netflix also recently cancelled another series, The Get Down.

Jonathon Dornbush is an Associate Editor for IGN who thinks the "What's Up" scene in Sense8's first season is one of the best scenes on TV ever. Find him on Twitter @jmdornbush.
