Star Wars: Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow promises the film will handle Leia Organa respectfully following the recent passing of Carrie Fisher.
In an interview with CinemaBlend, Trevorrow admitted Leia "was a major character" and there are "only certain things" that he is "willing to do" with Leia in Episode IX. While Trevorrow did not disclose exactly how he'll deal with Fisher's passing, he did promise it'll be handled correctly.
"I can guarantee it will be handled with love and respect, and all of the soul that Carrie Fisher deserves," said Trevorrow. The director also confirmed he did not have a chance to work with Fisher and hadn't finished writing the script for Episode IX before her death.
Earlier this year, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy revealed Fisher won't be in Episode IX. However, Kennedy did promise fans will see a lot of Leia in The Last Jedi since Fisher was able to complete all of her scenes for the film.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi, featuring Carrie Fisher's final appearance as Leia, opens this December.
