Kung Fu Panda Coming to Universal Studios Theme Park

Plus hello, Hello Kitty!

Having purchased DreamWorks Animation for 3.8 billion last year, it was clear NBCUniversal wouldn’t squander the theme park opportunities adding so many characters to their arsenal gives them. Now we know the first new theme park element we’ll see from this merger, as Universal Studios Hollywood has announced a new DreamWorks Theater attraction.

While the plan is for the venue to play host to a variety of DreamWorks Animation themed attractions, the first will be based around Kung Fu Panda, in what is described as a “multi-sensory adventure.” While it is a stage show, with the audience sitting down to watch, the description reads:

This new technologically advanced attraction will take guests on a legendary journey that fuses captivating storytelling with state-of-the art projection mapping and LED lighting effects for a highly engaging and immersive, unstoppable-awesome experience.

Universal had several announcements of upcoming additions to the park, including a new Hello Kitty partnership that will include the character appearing at the park, and new merchandise, including some that incorporates Hello Kitty with Universal films like Jaws, ET and Back to the Future.

Additionally, Universal Studios Hollywood will be doing their own version of the “Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” event later this year, which had previously been announced for Universal Orlando. This will include a new nighttime projection show at Hogwarts Castle, on the heels of a different projection show debuting at Universal Studios Hollywood this summer.
