It's that time of year again: E3 2017 is just on the horizon. From June 10-15, we'll be covering the biggest games and hardware announcements of 2017 and beyond. While you can check out our continually-updated Games of E3 List, we're now going to start diving deeper.
Every day leading up to the show, we'll be highlight the stuff we want to see and play at E3 2017. Today's game: Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
We haven’t really gotten a substantial look at Square’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake since PSX 2015. Square announced that they shifted development to an internal team, and earlier this year we got a few new screenshots, but outside of that, it’s been radio silence.
Quite simply, it’s one of the greatest RPGs of all time, completely reengineered from the ground up. Rumors of a Final Fantasy 7 Remake have been making the rounds on the internet for at least a decade, and now that we’ve finally gotten a glimpse of the actual gameplay (and we know it’s legitimately a real thing) long-time fans and newcomers alike have a reason to be pumped.
As far as we know, this is the classic Final Fantasy 7 story brought up to speed with modern gaming. Outside of the HD graphics, we know that the battle system has been overhauled to feel more like Advent Children and that each of the FF7’s episodic releases will be the size of standalone games.
It’s been a very, VERY long time since we’ve seen Final Fantasy 7 Remake in action, and E3 2017 seems like the perfect opportunity for it to make another splash. However, back in January, Game Director Tetsuya Nomura said "that the wait will be be a bit longer for Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake." which is a bummer for fans of both games, and likely indicates that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will not be making public appearances any time soon.
