Final Fantasy 14: Discussions Ongoing for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One Versions

But it's not all good news, because, "we believe these conversations will take a long time."

Final Fantasy XIV could yet come to Switch and Xbox One, with developer Square Enix confirming that discussions with Nintendo and Microsoft are ongoing.

Director Naoki Yoshida has previously said that he would like to bring the game to both consoles, but news on that front has been somewhat quiet.

Speaking with Finder, however, Yoshida once again reiterated his desire to bring the MMORPG to more platforms than PlayStation and PC, and made clear that talks are in progress.

The problem seems to be in confirming that the two platform holders will allow for instant patch updates, as well as cooperation and support for the game's community.

"We need to make sure Nintendo and Microsoft understand what we do and have them know about our online and QA regulations", Yoshida explained. "We believe these conversations will take a long time."

The FF14 team is no stranger to long-gestating changes. After its troubled release in 2010, the game has seen huge alterations and multiple expansions - it may be that Yoshida's persistence will pay off in the future.

If you'd like to give Final Fantasy XIV a go now, it's easier than ever - Square Enix just removed the time restriction from the game's free trial, meaning you can play all the way up to level 35 then transfer your save to the main game if you want to pay to continue.
