Fantastic Four Return Teased... With a Twist

"It takes 2."

Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso tweeted an image of Thing wearing his classic, blue Fantastic Four costume except the “4” has now been replaced with a “2.” His tweet simply said, "It takes 2".

The Fantastic Four team of Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben has not been seen since the conclusion of Secret Wars in January 2016. Reed and Sue (along with children Valeria and Franklin and other members of the Future Foundation) decided to journey into the Multiverse to work on repairing the destruction caused by the war, while Ben went on to join the Guardians of the Galaxy and Johnny the Inhumans. Ben recently returned to Earth, ending his time with the Guardians.

Much hubbub was to be had over the cancellation of the Fantastic Four comic series back in April 2015 with Issue #645. Fans and journalists insisted that Marvel ended the long-running title to spite 20th Century Fox, holder of the First Family’s movie rights. Although Marvel reps countered that it was simply the time for the team to take a break, just like other Marvel namesakes often do, until the right time for their return.

Perhaps that time is now? The “2” could mean that Thing and Torch will be restarting the team together, without Reed and Sue, to continue superheroing in the spirit of the group regardless of how many members are on the team.
