Battlegrounds Getting Player-Controlled Zombies

This team has brains.

The developer of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds has confirmed via Twitter that the studio is working on a new PvP zombie mode for its hugely-popular battle royale game.

The news was announced alongside some footage containing a brief glimpse of a few early zombie animations and attacks.

There’s no visibility on when the new mode will arrive, and the developer has emphasised that the player-controlled zombies will be available in a separate mode and not added to the existing ‘Battle Royale’ base game. It was also stressed that the primary focus of the team is still optimisation of the game as it currently stands (which includes upcoming new moves like vaulting, climbing, and diving through windows).

It’s a big week for Battlegrounds, with Microsoft confirming on Monday that the PC hit will launch exclusively on console via Xbox One’s Game Preview program in late 2017, and in 2018 as an Xbox One X enhanced title.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds first launched on Steam Early Access back in March, going on to sell over two million copies in less than two months. IGN’s Early Access review called it a "tight, focused, no-frills experience" and the better choice among similar survival-based MMO shooters.
