17 Directors Who Were Replaced on Their Movies

Things don't always go smoothly behind the camera.

Star Wars fans were dealt some bad news yesterday when they learned that directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were let go from the Han Solo spinoff film in the midst of production. It's a bizarre turn of events for the highly anticipated movie, but not unprecedented in the film industry.

As proof, check out our slideshow below breaking down 17 times when directors were fired from their own movies.

Details are still sketchy as to the reason for Lord and Miller's removal, but The Hollywood Reporter claims that the directors had been clashing with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy and writer Lawrence Kasdan from the beginning. Disney has yet to reveal which director will be taking over the project now, though Ron Howard, Joe Johnston and Kasdan himself are all reportedly contenders.

Currently, the Han Solo movie is still scheduled for a May 25, 2018 release. The film stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Woody Harrelson as Han's mentor, Beckett, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca and Emilia Clarke and Thandie Newton in unspecified roles.
